Will Trade-In Sites Really Give You $300+ For Your Old iPhone?

By

Sounds enticing doesn't it? Get rid of your old iPhone for almost as much as you paid for it with little effort and go out and buy a new one right? Now that's where things get a little murky, online trade-in sites like Cell for Cash, FlipSwap, Gazelle, NextWorth and YouRenew make big promises about big cash for your old devices.

The Offer

These sites all do about the same thing, you go to the site "appraise" your item by telling them what you have and what condition it's in(they don't only take iPhones) From there you decide whether or not you will accept the offer and mail in your device, then a few days later after evaluating it they will mail you a check. Sounds fast and easy right?

The Fine Print

This is where we see a few discrepancies, while you may rate your device as good or fair they have there own ideas and some people have reported sending near flawless devices in and getting poor ratings by the companies. What difference does this make? How about an offer of $100 less than what your quoted. One customer decided to reject one companies appraisal and asked for there phone back, and what did he get? Some other iPhone with a different IMEI in worse condition, after trading several emails with this company they still maintain he got his original phone back. Now that's not as bad as other customers who send there phone in and never receive a check.

Other Options

So many options on how to get the most for your old phone and with the new iPhone coming out June 24th the market will soon be saturated. What is the best option? Some prefer Ebay for a quick buck and others like Craigslist. Now with Ebay your all but guaranteed a sale but your phone is one of thousands up for sale. Now with Craigslist you may get a smaller audience but there is also less competition. With great alternatives like these do you need to mess around with trade-in sites?

Overall

Overall some people get what's advertised from these trade-in sites but then again many do not, do you want to take the risk? In the world of Ebay and Craigslist why mess with something so subjective and risky? What are your thoughts, is it worth the risk?
